Yesterday was our first actual Laura Ingalls site on this trip. There isn't a book about the Ingalls family's time in Burr Oak, IA but they spent a year here between "On the Banks of Plum Creek" and "By the Shores of Silver Lake".
While in Burr Oak they worked at the Masters Hotel which is still standing and has been restored into a museum.
Lodging was $0.25 a night but that was 3 people to a bed, shudder.
A butter mold
Hay twists like they burned during the long winter in SD
Parched corn
Reverend Alden and behind the picture, Laura's teaching credentials.
The checkers are pieces of corn cob dyed red and black
Little Bit is Laura :)
And some random pictures from this part of the trip:
Interesting swing set at the campground.
Had to laugh when I saw a lawn tractor driving down the road in front of the hotel.
Crossing the Mississippi River on our way to IA on Sunday.
